Archie MacDonald, the young owner of a fashionable London restaurant, is called to his ailing father's bedside. He has walked into a trap. His cantankerous father, Hector, has merely a chill, and his mother has dragged Archie North on a pretext.

Episode 1

Archie tries to return to London when a visitor halts him in his tracks. It's a banker come to foreclose on a loan to Glenbogle. Archie calls on the help of his household, but can Hector, Molly, or Glenbogle's retainers soften the heart of the financier?

Episode 2

Justine, Archie's girlfriend and business partner from London, has arrived out of the blue to find out what Archie is up to. But when she strays into a locked room at Glenbogle, she learns there are family ghosts here that Archie must lay to rest.

Episode 3

Justine returns to London. Katrina has a shock when a visit to Glenbogle by an old genealogist friend of Hector's uncovers an ancient diary. It belonged to a former servant at the house and records an affair she once had with someone called 'H'.

Episode 4

Archie's sister, Lizzie, turns up with her boyfriend, Gerald, intent on converting Glenbogle into a healing centre. Archie, searching for a supply of mineral water to bottle and sell, is staggered when Gerald finds a spring using 'mystic' powers.

Episode 5

As the new Laird of Glenbogle, Archie must take part in a traditional boat race across the loch against a neighbouring landowner, Laird Kilwillie. The MacDonalds are further disheartened when he asserts finder's-keepers privileges over an ancient ring.

Episode 6

Archie has organized a special Highland Night at his restaurant in London. He and Lexie fly south by helicopter carrying the very first pheasants killed during the Scottish shooting season. But the helicopter breaks down and Justine's patience wears thin.

Episode 7

Justine gives Archie an ultimatum: return to London or give up his share in the restaurant. To add to his problems, Glenbogle House is falling down and huge repair work is needed just as the bank is again calling in its loan.

Episode 8

Pluto

Archie and his father, Hector, go head-to-head as they battle for possession of a rare and valuable barrel of whisky. Archie is determined to sell it, Hector to drink it. Katrina, meanwhile, throws caution to the wind as she tries to win Archie's heart.

Archie's plan to resurrect his crumbling inheritance looks doomed. Archie must gamble all to the estate and bring it back from the brink. All this whilst trying to quell a growing rebellion against his increasingly unpopular girlfriend, Justine.

Ghosts from the past return to haunt Hector; as a long-held grudge threatens the future of Glenbogle. Hector is forced to confront old flame Edith Rankin whose feelings of rejection still burn as fiercely. So Hector digs deep to save Archie's bacon.

Archie wants to ignore his 30th birthday, but Molly is planning secret celebrations and Hector is preparing a special surprise of his own. Katrina's makes the most of the opportunity to let Archie know that she and Fergal are more than just good friends.

Molly's gambling addiction threatens to bankrupt the Macdonalds. Penniless and desperate, she settles on a hazardous plan to save Archie and company from complete ruin. Elsewhere on the estate, Archie has a challenge of major proportions on his hands.

Crockery flies at Glenbogle, as Lexie comes face to face with her estranged mother. Archie finds himself caught in the cat-fights as he struggles to unite a divided family. Katrina is stunned to discover that her school is scheduled for closure.

The sudden arrival of pregnant Lizzie MacDonald provokes Hector into disowning his errant daughter. With Lizzie going into labor, Archie must race against time to reconcile his warring family, before the next generation of the MacDonalds is born.

With the transformation of Glenbogle now complete, Archie can look forward to the future. Until a distant relative from America arrives, claiming to be the rightful Laird of Glenbogle.

Archie Macdonald left the family home in Scotland nearly ten years ago and had no desire to return. When news of a family crisis reaches him, he reluctantly heads to Glenbogle Castle. But far from being at death's door, Archie's father is not really ill.
