Det. Sgt. Cagney (Sharon Gless) and Det. Lacey (Tyne Daly) take personal interest in a state mental patient and become entangled in a bureaucratic system that abandons the mentally ill, shoving them onto the streets to survive as homeless drifters.

The City Is Burning,

Cagney (Sharon Gless) and Lacey (Tyne Daly) are frustrated in their attempt to crack a luxury car theft ring, and racial tensions heat the city following the unexplained murder of a black man in an all-white neighborhood. Also starring Al Waxman.

Detective Lacey unwittingly intervenes in a neighbor's domestic fight. When the neighbors lie to cover their crime, her grounds for arrest become her word against a whole family's denunciation of the crime, and her career is placed in jeopardy.

Different Drummer,

Cagney (Sharon Gless) investigates an eccentric old woman who is the victim of her neighbor's accusations, while Lacey (Tyne Daly) becomes involved in a parent's group that purports to be concerned about the quality of their children's education.

You'Ve Come A Long Way Baby,

Cagney (Sharon Gless) and Lacey (Tyne Daly) learn they arrested the wrong man in their first big robbery and murder case seven years ago. Meanwhile, they must also go undercover to investigate a string of murders of middle-aged prostitutes.

Cagney (Sharon Gless) and Lacey (Tyne Daly) investigate the theft of a seemingly worthless music videotape which may have a tie to illegal drugs. Cagney's niece Bridget (guest star Amanda Wyss) visits with hopes of becoming an actress.

Harvey, against Lacey's objections, agrees to go undercover to help nab a deadly racketeer who has threatened him, while Cagney battles with the young police academy lieutenant assigned to run the squad in Lt. Samuel's absence.

An Internal Affairs investigation invades the personal lives of Cagney and Lacey after an undercover assignment results in Cagney being tested positive for drugs. Meanwhile, the rest of the squad prepares for Isbecki's bachelor party and wedding.

The detectives investigate a rash of bogus 911 emergency calls from a Times Square hotel, while Keeler's (guest star Stephen Macht) marriage proposal to Cagney (Sharon Gless) yields a surprising answer. Also starring Tyne Daly as Mary Beth Lacey.

A refresher course at the police academy provides opportunities that neither Cagney nor Lacey expected. In the meantime, a rash of parking meter rip-offs provide the duo with an opportunity to use their newly acquired interrogation skills.

Cagney (Sharon Gless) and Lacey (Tyne Daly) become enmeshed in political intrigue when they investigate an apparent gang-related murder, while Cagney mulls over accepting a date with a man she meets at an A.A. meeting. Also starring Al Waxman.

Lacey experiences feelings of inadequacy when she and Cagney mingle with the inner circles of the art world during their investigation of a stolen painting. Meanwhile, Cagney and Nick address the possibility that their relationship may not work.

Sent upstate to bring back a key witness in a Federal probe of international money laundering, Cagney and Lacey are startled when they realize that they have been set up as decoys for organized crime and international terrorist hit teams.
