James is asked by his boss to dress more professionally and less like a dad. While James takes the kids on his shopping trip, Astrid works out with a trainer to get back into shape.

Astrid and James find it hard to make time for each other. But when James and Astrid get some unexpected time without kids, they push each other further apart.

When Astrid has to leave town for a conference related to her upcoming return to work, James must hold down the fort and take care of the kids.

When Astrid catches a bug right before Felix's eighth birthday party, James takes it as an opportunity to share the emotional labor of birthday party planning.

The Berneys are going on a road trip. During the drive, James and Astrid try to keep Viv and Felix from getting bored or fighting with each other as they rush to make the ferry.

While the kids are away, James and Astrid enjoy a night in together until a near-death experience rattles James. Meanwhile, Astrid must confront her discomfort with death.

The Berney home is a cluttered mess, so James and Astrid decide to purge their home of as many things as possible.
